ABOUT THIS PAINTING
Trulli are traditional architectural structures built in and around Alberobello, a town in the heart of the Umbrian region in Italy. Focusing on the superimposed tiles of the conic roof, the cactus and flowers planted along its white walls and the radiant sky presiding over them, the artist built up an intricate composition. Diagonal and vertical lines create a dynamic composition structuring the canvas. The oblong format further emphasizes the complexity of the composition. The picture captures the warm and cool lights cast upon the white walls and conic roofs of the Trulli on a bright summer morning. Thick dabs of paint are juxtaposed to finely painted layers of paint to create texture and depth.
Painted in allaprima Plein Air technique, the artist painted this picture on location and focused on general shapes and values. Carole applied quick strokes of oil paint onto wet surfaces to capture the brevity of the moment and spontaneity of the impression of this magical place.

ABOUT ME
Carole Nataf was born in Paris in 1989. She grew up in the heart of the Latin Quarter in Paris, influenced by the intellectual and academic scene of the area. From her mother, she inherited an early predilection for Arts and the inspirational charisma of family artists. In college, she studied Literature and Philosophy before attending graduate studies in business. After studying art privately in Paris, NYC, San Francisco and Boston, she grew a passion for Plein Air painting and Allaprima painting techniques. She developed a special interest in texture contrast where soft meets harsh and delicate meets blunt. Influenced by artists such as Edward Hopper and Edouard Manet, she is admirative of their unmatched ability to simplify shapes, and juxtapose contrasting values without blending. Currently she lives and works in Boston and Cambridge, MA. She won the First prize at Revere Beach Art Festival in 2016.
